Extra-community trade statistics
March 2009
Extra Trade - Exports down by 21.9% and imports by 38.4% - March 2009
08 May 2009

Summary
In the first quarter of 2009, exports decreased by 21.9% and imports by 38.4%, leading to a reduction in the deficit of the trade balance with Third Countries, comparing with the same period in the previous year (January  to March 2008).
An overview of the trade with Mercosur (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela) shows that only Brazil stands out as a big trading partner in the extra-community trade. The trade balance with Mercosur traditionally presents a deficit. In terms of goods, the import of primary agricultural products and the export of processed agricultural products should be highlighted.
