Goods handled in ports grew by 3.9% , more than in the preceding quarter (+2.7%) but below the 3rd quarter 2015 (+6.1%). In railway mode, goods transported declined by 7.3% in tonnes and 2.0% in tonnes-kilometre (+6.4% and +3.3% in the 4th quarter 2015, by the same order), in contrast with the positive evolution recorded since the 3rd quarter 2013. In national airports, the movement of cargo and mail declined by 4.9%, a reduction in line with the latest quarters (-8.0% in the 4th Q 2015). In the 1st quarter 2016, the goods transported by road declined by 6.8%, due to domestic traffic (-10.6%). On the contrary, the goods transported in international traffic increased (+11.8%), as opposed to the decline recorded in the preceding quarter (-5.4%).
In national airports, the movement of aircrafts landed and passengers increased by 9.6% and 13.4% respectively, slightly more than in the preceding quarter (+7.7% and +12.2%). The transport of passengers kept increasing in heavy railway systems (+0.9%, +1.5% in the preceding quarter) and in light railway systems (+4.9%, +5.8% in the preceding quarter).
