This issue of the Anuário Regional, 2000 (2000 Regional Yearbook) continues the strategy of dissemination of statistical information at regional and municipality level, in order to provide users with a set of indicators for the assessment of local performance, as well as the possibility to outline planning strategies at the municipal level. Thus, among the news incorporated in this issue of the Anuário Regional (Regional Yearbook), stress is laid on the use of information of municipalities area, stemming from the Geographic Information Referencing Base (Portuguese acronym: BGRI), whose preliminary version is available since March this year and the inclusion of structural information from the Census of Agriculture 1999, and the publication relating to shopping centres.
