Statistical information on Tourism, covering different time periods and geographical breakdowns, can be obtained from several dissemination products available on the Portal, notably:
· Database – This contains the largest volume of statistical data and is continuously updated.
Go to Products> Database> Theme: Tourism > Sub-themes:
· Tourism supply – indicators relating to guests, overnight stays, average length of stay, room revenue and total revenue, net bed occupancy rate, accommodation capacity, number of rooms per establishment, number of tourist accommodation establishments, youth hostels, holiday camps, campsites, amongst others, many of which are geographically broken down to municipality level. The monthly indicators available are derived from the Survey on guest stays in tourism accommodation establishments.
· Tourism demand - indicators relating to trips made by tourists (by sex, age group, means of transport used, duration and purpose of the trip), including residents, and the number of overnight stays by tourists, also covering different dimensions. In this subtheme, the maximum geographical breakdown is at the NUTS 2 region level and applies only to indicators referring to resident tourists. The quarterly indicators available are derived from the Survey on trips by residents.
It should be noted that, in the database, the tables for the selected indicators display, by default, the most recent and aggregated information. However, these can be changed using the “Change selection conditions” option to obtain more detailed breakdowns of the indicators’ dimensions, where applicable, and/or other reference periods for the information.
- Publications
Go to Products> Publications> Theme: Tourism, where you will find the annual publication Tourism Statistics, which analyses supply and occupancy data for all types of accommodation (tourist accommodation establishments, campsites, holiday camps and youth hostels) and, within the broader sector of tourist accommodation establishments, according to three segments: hotels, rural/lodging tourism and local accommodation, as well as detailed information on tourists (residents), including a description of their trips in various aspects, including day trips.
The body of the publications with content analysis, available in PDF, may be complemented by information tables in XLSX and CSV formats.
On the details page for the selected publication, the “Previous issues” option provides access to earlier editions.
· Press releases – provide a brief analysis of the first results of statistical operations, usually complemented by statistical data files in Excel format that provide greater detail.
Go to Products> Press Releases> Theme: Tourism, where several collections on this theme are available, namely: Tourism Activity (monthly and quarterly Press Releases); Tourism Demand by Residents; Tourism Statistics and the Tourism Satellite Account for Portugal.

- Thematic Folders
Go to Products> Thematic Folders> National Accounts> Satellite Accounts> Tourism Satellite Account, where tables are available containing information on inbound, domestic and outbound tourism expenditure; domestic tourism supply and consumption within the economic territory; the production account; collective tourism consumption; and employment and wages in the tourism sector.
