The Portal provides a wide range of indicators that allow construction activity to be compared with other economic activities at different levels and, based on this evolutionary dynamic, to understand its importance in the national economy. To this end, we suggest accessing Products:
· Thematic Folders> National Accounts> Tables by industry:
• Main aggregates - Production Side (Gross Value Added and Production by branch of activity)
• Main Aggregates - Income Side (by branch of activity, information on Employee compensation, Wages and salaries, Gross operating surplus/gross mixed income, Other taxes on production and Other subsidies on production)
• Fixed Assets - Stock and Gross Fixed Capital Formation
• Employment (by branch of activity, information on total jobs, paid work, total individuals, full-time equivalent paid work, and paid hours worked).
· Database> Topic: Enterprises> Subtheme:
• Integrated business accounts – Contains indicators from the Integrated Company Accounts System (SCIE) available by economic activity, many of them by subclass of the Classification of Economic Activities - CAE (5 digits). With this breakdown of the CAE, it is possible to obtain the number of companies and economic-financial indicators with information on: Production, Turnover, Personnel in service, Remuneration, Personnel expenses, Taxes, Gross fixed capital formation, Gross value added rate, Net income, Current assets, Solvency and Financial autonomy of companies, among others.
SCIE began in 1994-95 as a result of a process of integrating information on companies, initially from the Annual Business Survey and subsequently from administrative information obtained through an agreement with the Tax and Customs Authority (AT). Currently, SCIE is the result of a process of integrating statistical information on companies, based on administrative data, with particular emphasis on Simplified Business Information (IES), created by Decree-Law No. 8/2007 of January 17, 2007, which includes a wide range of annual information relevant for statistical, tax, and accounting purposes. This information is supplemented with data for individual companies (sole proprietors and self-employed workers), received through the protocol established between Statistics Portugal and AT, as well as with information from Statistics Portugal’s Statistical Units File (FUE).
For more information on the indicators disclosed, see Portal> Products> Metadata System> Methodological Documentation> Topic: Enterprises, the Methodological Document Integrated Business Accounts System.
• Demography of enterprises – This subtheme consists of information from the statistical study “Demography of enterprises,” which provides indicators on birth, death, and survival rates by economic activity (CAE Division) and the number of deaths and births (CAE Section), some with geographical breakdowns at the municipal level. This information is particularly important, as new companies, with their growth potential, can make a significant contribution to increasing employment. This explains the inclusion of birth, death, and survival rates from this study in the list of structural indicators.
For more information on the indicators from this source, see Portal> Products> Metadata System> Methodological Documentation> Theme: Enterprises, the Methodological Document Business Demographics.
It should be noted that the table with the information for the indicator selected in the Database displays the most aggregated information by default. It is possible to change its dimensions using the “Change selection conditions” option to select a higher level of disaggregation (e.g., Economic Activity (CAE) or Geographic Location) and/or another Data reference period.
