• The unemployment rate stood at 5.7%, down from March 2026 by 0.2 percentage points (pp), from January of the same year by 0.1 pp and from April of 2025 by 0.6 pp.
• The labour underutilisation rate was estimated at 9.7%, down from the previous month (0.1 pp), and from the same month of a year earlier (0.8 pp), having remained unchanged from three months earlier.
May 2026 (provisional estimates):
• The unemployment rate stood at 5.5%, down from April 2026 (0.2 pp), from February of that year (0.5 pp) and from May 2025 (0.7 pp).
• The labour underutilisation rate was estimated at 9.4%, down from the previous month (0.3 pp), from three months before (0.5 pp) and from a year earlier (1.0 pp).
• The employed population stood, in May 2026, at 5,366.6 thousand, reaching the highest value since the beginning of the series in February 1998.
