The Consumer confidence indicator increased in May and June, after declining in the previous three months, significantly in March, and registering in April its lowest value since November 2023. This evolution was driven by positive contributions from all components: expectations regarding the future evolution of the country’s economic situation, of major purchases by households and of households’ financial situation, as well as opinions on the past evolution of households’ financial situation.
The balance of opinions on past price developments decreased in the last two months, after recording in April the highest rise since May 2008. The balance of expectations on future price developments declined between April and June, following increases in the previous three months, and reaching in March its highest level since March 2022.
The economic climate indicator increased between April and June, after decreasing in the previous month, surpassing the level observed at the beginning of the year. The confidence indicators increased in Services and in Trade, stabilized in Manufacturing Industry and decreased in Construction and Public Works.
The confidence indicator of Services increased over the past two months, slightly in June, driven by the positive contributions from opinions on the evolution of the order books and the perspectives on the evolution of demand. The Trade confidence indicator also increased in June, after declining in the previous month, reflecting the positive contributions from assessments of the volume of sales and expectations for activity over the next three months. In Manufacturing Industry, the indicator stabilized, as the positive contribution from opinions on the evolution of the overall order books was offset by negative contributions from production expectations and assessments of finished of the current stock finished products. In Construction and Public Works, the confidence indicator decreased in June, after having increased in the two preceding months, reflecting the negative contributions of both components: opinions on current order books and perspectives on employment.
In June, the entrepreneurs’ expectations regarding the future evolution of selling prices decreased in all sectors, Services, Construction and Public Works, Trade and, particularly, in Manufacturing Industry.
