In 2024:

1. There were 63,965 professionals living in Portugal registered in the Portuguese Medical Association, which represents more than double compared to 1991 (28,326) and a ratio of resident doctors per 1,000 inhabitants of 6.0, with the regional maximum observed in Região de Coimbra (13.9);

2. There were 12,490 professionals registered in the Portuguese Medical Dentist Association and living in the country, corresponding to three times as many as in 2002 (4,134) and a ratio of resident dentists per 1,000 inhabitants of 1.2, with the highest ratios in Área Metropolitana do Porto (1.7) and Viseu Dão Lafões (1.6);

3. 85,499 active professionals were registered in the Portuguese Nurses Association. This number corresponds to double that of 2002 (41,799) and corresponds to a ratio of active nurses per 1,000 inhabitants of 8.0, which reached 14.6 in Região de Coimbra;

4. There were 17,101 active professionals registered in the Portuguese Pharmacists Association, a number that represents more than double that of 2002 (7,962) and a ratio of active pharmacists per 1,000 inhabitants of 1.6, with the regional maximums recorded in Região de Coimbra and Grande Lisboa (2.4 in both cases).
