In 2024, there were 3,800 establishments classified as Large-sized Commercial Unit (UCDR) in Portugal, which represents a growth of 2.9% compared to the previous year (+0.7% in 2023). Persons employed, in a total of 130.5 thousand workers, increased by 3.8% (+2.7% in 2023).
Turnover and Sales reached 26.0 and 25.8 billion euros, respectively, both with a growth of 5.2% (+11.4% in 2023). The number of transactions (1.2 billion) rose by 5.8% (+8.6% in 2023).
In the food retail units, sales grew by 4.9% (+14.0% in 2023) to €18.3 billion, while in the non-food retail units the increase was 6.1% (+5.4% in 2023), totalling €7.5 billion.
The sale of own-brand products in the food retail units maintained its growth trajectory, amounting to 8.6 billion euros and representing 47.0% of global sales in 2024 (45.2% in 2023), the highest proportion since the beginning of the series.
