Summary

In 2024, the Distributive Trade sector had 218.8 thousand enterprises (+0.7%; +0.1% in 2023) and 860.6 thousand employees (+2.2%; +2.0% in 2023), producing a Turnover of EUR 201.8 billion (+3.6%; +4.6% in 2023). Gross Value Added reached EUR 28.3 billion (+6.9%; +8.6% in 2023), while the Global commercial margin stood at EUR 37.4 billion (+6.2%; +6.0% in 2023). The Commercial margin per company stood at EUR 171 thousand (+5.5%; +5.9% in 2023).

In the activity of Automobile Trade, there were increases of 7.1% in Turnover (+17.7% % in 2023) and in Global commercial margin (7.0%; +12.9% in 2023) and by company (3.5%; +10.3% in 2023). Persons employed grew by 4.4% (+3.3% in 2023). 

In Wholesale trade, there were also increases, in the Turnover (1.8%; +0.5% in 2023), in Global commercial margin (4.6%; +2.8% in 2023) and by company (3.8%; +2.0% in 2023) and in the persons employed (1.9%; +2.6% in 2023). 

In Retail trade, the Turnover grew by 4.7% (+6.1% in 2023), as well as the Global commercial margin (7.6%; +7.9% in 2023) and the Commercial margin per company (7.8%; +8.8% in 2023). The number of persons employed in these enterprises rose by 1.8% (+1.4% in 2023).

Enterprises with Large-sized Commercial Units establishments concentrated 41.8% of the Turnover (44.3% in 2023) and 30.1% of the persons employed (31.8% in 2023) of the Retail trade activities to which they belong, although they represented only 0.4% of the number of enterprises (same as in 2023).
