Summary

In the 4th quarter of 2024, the employed population (5,148.8 thousand people) increased by 0.2% (7.9 thousand) from the previous quarter and by 1.3% (65.1 thousand) from one year before.

The share of the employed population who has teleworked, that is who has worked from home using information and communication technologies, was 20.5% (1,057.8 thousand people), 1.3 percentage points (pp) more than in the 3rd quarter of 2024.

The unemployed population, estimated at 368.3 thousand people, has increased by 10.1% (33.6 thousand) from the previous quarter and by 2.7% (9.6 thousand) from a year earlier.

The unemployment rate stood at 6.7%, up 0.6 pp from the 3rd quarter of 2024 and up 0.1 pp from the 4th quarter of 2023.

The labour underutilisation covered 625.5 thousand people, having increased by 6.8% (40.1 thousand) from the previous quarter and decreased by 3.1% (20.2 thousand) from a year before. Similarly, the labour underutilisation rate (11.1%) has increased in the quarterly comparison (0.7 pp) and decreased in the year-on-year one (0.5 pp).

The inactive population aged 16 and over (3,737.3 thousand people) has decreased by 0.2% (5.8 thousand) from the previous quarter and has increased by 0.9% (34.2 thousand) in the year-on-year comparison.

In 2024, the annual average employed population stood at 5,112.3 thousand people and has increased by 1.2% (61.1 thousand) from the previous year. However, the unemployed population, estimated at 351.1 thousand people, has remained practically unchanged from 2023.

The unemployment rate stood at 6.4% and the labour underutilisation rate at 11.0%, both down from 2023 (0.1 pp and 0.7 pp, respectively).

The young people (aged 16 to 24) unemployment rate stood at 21.6%, 1.1 pp more than in the previous year, while the proportion of long-term unemployment was 36.9%, down 0.8 pp from 2023.
