In December 2024, 4.7 million passengers and 22.2 thousand tonnes of freight and mail were handled at national airports, corresponding to year-on-year variations of +3.9% and +9.6%, respectively, compared with December 2023 (+6.2% and +10.6% in the previous month, in the same order).
Since the beginning of 2024 there were historic monthly highs of passengers at national airports. In December 2024, there was a daily average of nearly 78 thousand passengers disembarked, 2.8% higher value than the one registered in December 2023 (75.9 thousand).
In 2024 (preliminary data), 245.9 thousand commercial aircraft landed at national airports (+0.9%; +12.0% in 2023) and 70.4 million passengers were handled (+4.3%; +18.9% in 2023). The freight and mail movement increased 14.2% compared with the previous year (+0.1% in 2023), reaching 254.8 thousand tonnes.
In 2024, the ranking of the five main countries of origin and destination of flights remained unchanged compared with the previous year. The United Kingdom remained as the main country of origin and destination of flights, recording increases of 1.4% in the number of disembarked passengers and 1.3% in the number of embarked passengers. France kept the 2nd position, despite decreases of 3.3% in the number of disembarked passengers and 3.6% in the number of embarked passengers. Spain kept the 3rd position, Germany the 4th and Italy the 5th.
