Consumption of proteins and fat in Portugal corresponds to threefold that recommended. Consumption of alcoholic beverages decreases by 16% in 14 years and is surpassed by consumption of non-alcoholic beverages - 1990 - 2003

Summary
The Portuguese food balance reveals that the Portuguese food diet is unbalanced, poor in fruit, vegetables and dried pulses and rich in fat and proteins. Consumption of non-alcoholic beverages has exceeded that of alcoholic beverages, chiefly on account of bottled water. It is also worth mentioning consumption of stimulant products such as cocoa and chocolate which doubled in the period under review.
