Summary
On 31 December agricultural forecasts pointed to a decline from the previous year in the cereal area cultivated. In fact, even though weather conditions allowed crops of small grain cereals, the single payment scheme, which uncouples aid from production, rendered such crops less attractive to farmers. Draught in 2005 has affected olive production which, however, reveals a good state of health. Prospects point to a quality olive oil season.
