The tourist accommodation sector registered 3.4 million guests and 9.9 million overnight stays in August 2022, the highest monthly values since there are records, corresponding to year-on-year rates of change of +33.0% and +31.9%, respectively (+85.4% and +90.0% in July, in the same order). Compared to August 2019, there were increases of 1.2% and 2.8%, respectively.

In August, the domestic market contributed with 3.7 million overnight stays (-11.4%) and the external markets amounted to 6.2 million (+86.9%). Compared to August 2019, the domestic market grew by 8.2% and external markets declined by 0.2%.

In the first eight months of 2022, overnight stays increased by 133.8% (+33.7% in residents and +278.4% in non-residents). Compared to the same period in 2019, overnight stays decreased by 3.0% (-7.7% for non-residents and +7.7% for residents).

In August, 11.8% of tourist accommodation establishments were closed or had no movement of guests (18.6% in August 2021).
