Summary

Based on the information made available until the date of the present press release, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) annual rate is estimated to be 0.5% in April 2021, the same value as in March. The core inflation index, which excludes energy and unprocessed food products components, has also remained stable, registering a 0.1% annual rate in April. The annual rate of change of the index for energy products is estimated to be 8.1% (2.4% in the previous month) and the estimated rate for unprocessed food is -1.1% (1.3% in March). This reduction of unprocessed food prices mainly reflects the base effect related to the strong price increases registered in April 2020.
The estimated CPI monthly rate was 0.4% (in March, the final value was 1.4% and 0.3% in April 2020), while the CPI 12-month average rate was estimated to be 0.1% (nil in the previous month).
The estimate of the Portuguese Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) annual rate of change was -0.1% (0.1% in the previous month).
The April CPI final results will be released on May 12th, 2021.
