Summary

The April 2017 unemployment rate stood at 9.5%, down by 0.3 percentage points (p.p.) from the previous month’s level and by 0.6 p.p. from three months before. That value corresponds to a downward revision of 0.3 p.p. from the provisional estimate released one month ago and is the lowest observed estimate since December 2008 (9.3%).
The April unemployed population was estimated at 490.7 thousand people, having decreased by 2.4% from the previous month’s level (12.2 thousand fewer people), while the employed population was estimated at
4,663.5 thousand people, having increased by 0.3% (13.4 thousand more people) from the previous month’s level.
The provisional unemployment rate estimate for May 2017 was 9.4%. For this month, the provisional estimate for the unemployed population was 484.8 thousand people and for the employed population it was 4,658.9 thousand people.
