The November 2017 unemployment rate was 8.1%, down by 0.3 percentage points (p.p.) from the previous month’s level and by 0.6 p.p. from three months before. That value corresponds to a downwards revision of 0.1 p.p. from the provisional estimate released one month ago. Only going back to November 2004 it is possible to find a rate as lower as that.
Statistics Portugal estimates that the November unemployed population was 417.2 thousand people, having decreased by 3.9% from the previous month’s level (17.0 thousand fewer people). The employed population estimate was
4,752.4 thousand people, having increased by 0.4% (19.2 thousand more people) from the previous month’s level.
The provisional unemployment rate estimate for December 2017 was 7.8%. For this month, the provisional estimate for the unemployed population was 401.5 thousand people and that for the employed population was 4,776.0 thousand people.
