Transport of goods keeps increasing in national ports and airports while declining in road transport - 1st Quarter 2015

Summary

National maritime ports recorded increases of 3.2% in the number of commercial vessels entered, 12.0% in gross tonnage (GT) of the vessels and 9.9% in goods handled (+3.1%, +4.3% and +10.3% respectively in the 4th quarter 2014).
Goods transported in railway mode increased by 11.1% (+11.5% in preceding quarter) corresponding to a growth of 12.7% in tons-kilometer (+16.7% in the 4th quarter 2014).
Airport activity kept growing as in 2014, with increases in the movement of aircrafts (+9.2%), passengers (+14.3%) and in cargo/mail (+6.8%) in national airports (+5.9%, +9.9% and +10.2% respectively in the 4th quarter 2014).
On the contrary, road freight transport in national vehicles presented a declining change rate (-3.8%) but less so in comparison with the preceding quarter (-6.2%).
The transport of passengers in railway mode increased by 1.8% (1.1% in the previous quarter), also growing in inland waterways (+2.0% in the 1st quarter 2015 and +0.1% in the preceding quarter) while the light railway systems recorded a change rate of -0.9% (+1.7% in the 4th quarter 2014).
