DESPORTO EM NÚMEROS \ 5 O Instituto Nacional de Estatística disponibiliza, em formato bilingue, a 3ª edição da publicação Desporto em Números 2022, na qual é divulgada informação relativa a um conjunto de indicadores sobre o desporto em Portugal. Não existindo operações estatísticas inteiramente dedicadas ao desporto, nesta publicação são divulgados resultados obtidos a partir de diversas fontes, seja de operações estatísticas do INE ou de dados de natureza administrativa. A informação reporta aos anos de 2017 a 2022, quando disponível. A publicação encontra-se organizada em sete capítulos: ensino, emprego, empresas, comércio internacional de bens, preços no consumidor dos bens e serviços, financiamento público e desporto federado, percorrendo um conjunto de indicadores‑síntese relativos à dimensão social e económica do desporto. Os temas e as áreas foram definidos tendo por base a metodologia do Eurostat para as estatísticas do desporto (2015) e a “Definição de desporto de Vilnius”, acordada no Grupo de Trabalho sobre Desporto e Economia da União Europeia. Esta área estatística encontra-se em desenvolvimento no seio do Sistema de Estatístico Europeu, visando aumentar a comparabilidade da informação nos países da União Europeia. Março de 2023 NOTA INTRODUTÓRIA | INTRODUCTORY NOTE > Statistics Portugal releases, in bilingual format, the third edition of Sports in Numbers 2022, including information for a set of indicators regarding sports in Portugal. As there are no statistical operations entirely dedicated to sports, the information available in this publication results from several statistical operations of Statistics Portugal and administrative sources. The information reports the years 2017 to 2022, when available. The statistical information is organized into seven chapters: education, employment, business sector, international trade, consumer price index of goods and services, public financing, and federated sport, going through a set of themes in the economic and social context in which the sports activities develop. The sports sector’s scope follows the Eurostat methodology for Sports Statistics (2015) and the “Vilnius sport definition”, established by the Working Group on Sport and Economics of the European Union. This statistical area is still a work in progress within the European Statistical System, aiming for the comparability of information among the European Union countries. Statistics Portugal thanks to the entities that hold the administrative data that is included in this publication, namely the Directorate-General for Education and Science Statistics and, in particular the Portuguese Institute of Sports and Youth I.P. (IPDJ), whose close cooperation was crucial for the accomplishment of this publication. March 2023

DESPORTO EM NÚMEROS \ 7 ENSINO DESPORTIVO | SPORTS EDUCATION > No ano letivo 2021/2022, estavam inscritos 10 973 alunos no ensino superior nas áreas de educação e formação consideradas desportivas (mais 4,1% do que no ano letivo anterior). Os cursos com maior número de inscritos foram o “Desporto” (32,3% do total), “Ciências do desporto” (28,6%) e “Educação física e desporto” (20,8%). O número de diplomados na área do desporto, em 2020/2021 (2 510), registou um aumento de 8,4% relativamente ao ano letivo anterior. Os alunos diplomados em “Educação física e desporto” (28,0%) e em “Ciências do desporto” (27,9%) representaram mais de metade do total. In the 2021/2022 school year, there were 10,973 students enrolled in tertiary education in the sports fields of education and training (4.1% more than in the previous school year). The study areas with the higher number of enrolled students were “Sport” (32.3% of the total), “Science of sport” (28.6%), and “Physical education and sport” (20.8%). The number of graduates in the field of sports, in 2020/2021 (2,510), recorded an increase of 8.4% when compared to the previous school year. The share of graduated students in “Physical education and sport” (28.0%) and Science of sport” (27.9%) represented more than half of the total.

DESPORTO EM NÚMEROS \ 11 Em 2022, a população empregada no sector desportivo foi estimada em 44,5 mil pessoas (mais 20,3% do que no ano anterior). Comparativamente com a população total empregada, o emprego desportivo caraterizava-se por ser maioritariamente masculino, mais jovem e mais escolarizado: 64,5% eram homens (50,3% no total da população empregada), 50,8% tinham idades dos 16 aos 34 anos (24,2% no total) e 51,0% tinham o ensino superior completo (34,5% no total). EMPREGO DESPORTIVO | SPORTS EMPLOYMENT > In 2022, sports employment was estimated at 44.5 thousand people (20.3% more than in the previous year). Compared to the total employed population, sports employment is characterized by employing more men, younger and more educated people: 64.5% were men (50.3% in total employment), 50.8% were aged between 16 and 34 years (24.2% in total) and 51.0% had completed tertiary education (34.5% in total).

DESPORTO EM NÚMEROS \ 15 EMPRESAS DO SECTOR DESPORTIVO | SPORTS SECTOR ENTERPRISES > Em 2021 (dados do Sistema de Contas Integradas das Empresas), pertenciam ao sector desportivo 14 368 empresas (1,1% do sector não financeiro), responsáveis por 1,9 mil milhões de euros de volume de negócios (0,4%) e por 731,9 milhões de euros de Valor Acrescentado Bruto (VAB) (0,7%). Em relação ao ano anterior, o número de empresas do sector desportivo registou um acréscimo de 4,5%, tendo o volume de negócios e o VAB aumentado 11,9% e 23,2%, respetivamente. As empresas de Gestão de instalações desportivas, Atividades de clubes desportivos, Atividades de ginásio (fitness) e de Outras atividades desportivas geraram, em conjunto, 45,7% do volume de negócios e foram responsáveis por 66,3% do VAB do sector. Em 2021, a produtividade aparente do trabalho para o sector desportivo (22,8 mil euros) foi inferior à registada para o total do sector não financeiro (26,4 mil euros). In 2021 (Integrated Business Accounts System data), 14,368 enterprises belonged to the sports sector (1.1% of the non-financial sector) and were responsible for 1.9 thousand million euros of turnover (0.4%) and for 731.9 million euros of Gross Value Added (GVA) (0.7%). Compared to the previous year, the sports sector´s enterprises recorded an increase of 4.5%. Their turnover and the GVA increased by 11.9% and 23.2%, respectively. The enterprises of Operation of sports facilities, Activities of sports clubs, Fitness facilities, and of Other sports activities generated, as a whole, accounted for 45.7% of turnover and 66.3% of the sector’s GVA. In 2021, the apparent labour productivity of the sports sector (22.8 thousand euros) was lower than that of the total enterprises of the non-financial sector (26.4 thousand euros).

DESPORTO EM NÚMEROS \ 19 REMUNERAÇÃO BRUTA MENSAL MÉDIA POR TRABALHADOR NO SECTOR DESPORTIVO | GROSS MONTHY EARNING PER EMPLOYEE IN SPORTS SECTOR > Em 2022 (dados provisórios), a remuneração bruta total mensal média por trabalhador (por posto de trabalho) nas atividades do sector desportivo foi 1 366 euros (mais 4,7% do que em 2021). A componente regular desta remuneração aumentou 1,5%, para 1 078 euros e a remuneração base aumentou 0,9%, para 1 024 euros. No total da economia, a remuneração bruta total mensal média por trabalhador foi superior, 1 411 euros, tal como a componente regular, 1 140 euros, e a remuneração base 1 070 euros, tendo registado aumentos superiores na remuneração bruta regular e remuneração bruta base de 3,1% e 3,0%, respetivamente, enquanto a remuneração bruta total teve um crescimento menor que a do sector desportivo (3,6%) em relação a 2021. No sector desportivo destacaram-se as Atividades dos clubes desportivos, com a maior remuneração bruta total mensal média por trabalhador (2 645 euros), com a componente regular de 2 043 euros e a remuneração base de 1 973 euros. Pelo contrário, foi nos Ensinos desportivo e recreativo que se registaram menores remunerações nas várias componentes: 848 euros (total), 746 euros (regular) e 735 euros (base). In 2022 (provisional data), the total gross monthly earnings per employee (per job) in the sports sector activities was 1,366 euros (4.7% more than in 2021), the regular component increased 1.5%, to 1,078 euros, and the base monthly earnings increased 0.9%, reaching 1,024 euros. In the total economy, the gross monthly earnings per employee was 1,411 euros, the regular component 1,140 euros, and the base earnings of 1,070 euros, corresponding to an increase of 3.1%, 3.0%, respectively, while the gross monthly earnings grew less than that of the sports sector (3.6%) compared to 2021. In the sports sector stood out the Activities of sports clubs with the highest gross monthly earnings per employee (2,645 euros), with a regular gross component of 2,043 euros, and base gross monthly earnings of 1,973 euros. On the contrary, Sports and recreation education recorded lower remunerations in the various components: 848 euros (total), 746 euros (regular) e 735 euros (base).

DESPORTO EM NÚMEROS \ 23 COMÉRCIO INTERNACIONAL DE BENS DESPORTIVOS | INTERNATIONAL TRADE IN SPORTS GOODS > Em 2022 (dados preliminares), o total de exportações de bens desportivos atingiu 580,1 milhões de euros (mais 7,6% do que em 2021) e as importações registaram 404,5 milhões de euros (+19,9%), resultando num saldo positivo de 175,6 milhões de euros na balança comercial de bens desportivos (menos 13,0% do que em 2021 e mais 91,4% do que em 2020). A taxa de cobertura das importações pelas exportações em 2022 foi 143,4% (menos 18,7 pontos percentuais do que no ano anterior). O principal responsável pelo saldo positivo da balança comercial de bens desportivos foram as bicicletas, cujo valor exportado foi 345,2 milhões de euros (59,5% do total das exportações dos bens desportivos) e o valor importado 34,5 milhões de euros. Nas importações destacaram- -se os bens de ginástica e equipamento de natação (28,1%) e o calçado de desporto (27,0%), os quais representam em conjunto 55,1% no total. Os bens de ginástica e equipamento de natação foram os que apresentaram maior déficit (-91,7 milhões de euros). In 2022 (preliminary data), the total of sports goods exports reached 580.1 million euros (more 7.6% than in 2021) and the imports were 404.5 million euros (+19.9%). This resulted in a commercial trade balance surplus of 175.6 million euros in the sports goods (less 13.0% than 2021 and more 91.4% than 2020). The export/imports rate in 2022 was 143.4% (18.7 percentage points less than the previous year). The main contribution to the surplus in the sports goods trade balance were bicycles, which accounted for an exported value of 345.2 million euros (59.5% of total exports of sports goods) and an imported value of 34.5 million euros. Gymnastics athletic and swimming equipment (28.1%) and sports footwear (27.0%) together represented 55.1% of total imported value. The gymnastics athletic and swimming equipment were the set of sports goods with the highest deficit (-91.7 million euros).

DESPORTO EM NÚMEROS \ 31 FINANCIAMENTO PÚBLICO DAS ATIVIDADES DESPORTIVAS | PUBLIC FINANCING OF SPORTS ACTIVITIES > Em 2021, as Câmaras Municipais afetaram 323,3 milhões de euros às Atividades e equipamentos desportivos (mais 7,4% do que em 2020), representando 3,3% do total da despesa dos Municípios. O aumento de 22,3 milhões de euros das despesas em Atividades e equipamentos desportivos foi resultado do aumento das despesas de capital em 15,9 milhões de euros (+21,4%), e do aumento nas despesas correntes em 6,4 milhões de euros (+2,4%). Por subdomínios, destacaram-se, pelo peso no total, as despesas afetas à Construção e manutenção de infraestruturas desportivas (41,2%) seguidas das Atividades desportivas (27,8%) e das Associações desportivas (24,1%). A despesa média por habitante em Atividades e equipamentos desportivos no total das autarquias foi 31,2 euros, tendo-se destacado as regiões do Algarve (60,0 euros) e do Alentejo (47,3 euros). Pelo contrário, a Região Autónoma da Madeira e a Área Metropolitana de Lisboa registaram valores inferiores à média nacional (12,9 euros e 18,0 euros respetivamente). Em 2021, o financiamento do Instituto Português do Desporto e Juventude às Federações desportivas atingiu 41,0 milhões de euros (menos 3,0% do que no ano anterior). O Apoio às Atividades desportivas destacou-se com 47,9% do total do financiamento, superando a Alta competição (38,3%) e os Eventos internacionais (8,6%). In 2021, Local Governments’ expenditure on activities and sports infrastructures reached 323.3 million euros (7.4% more than in 2020), which represented 3.3% of total Municipalities’ expenditure. The increase of 22.3 million euros in expenses on activities and sports infrastructures was the result of the increase in capital expenditure by 15.9 million euros (+21.4%), and the increase in current expenses by 6.4 million euros of euros (+2.4%). By sub-domain, the highlights, by weight in the total, were expenditures related to Construction and maintenance of infrastructures (41.2%) followed by Sports activities (27.8%) and Sports associations (24.1%). DESPORTO EM NÚMEROS \ 35 Em 2021, existiam 9 893 clubes desportivos (menos 10,6% do que no ano anterior) e 483 829 praticantes (-17,7%) inscritos nas Federações desportivas. O futebol foi a modalidade com maior número de praticantes (26,0% do total), seguida da natação (9,7%), voleibol (8,4%) e andebol (6,5%). Nas modalidades com maior número de inscritos, os homens predominavam no futebol (93,3%) e andebol (57,9%). As mulheres destacaram-se na ginástica (86,8%), sendo maioritárias na prática patinagem (56,5%), voleibol (55,1%) e natação (52,6%). Em 2022, os praticantes de alto rendimento totalizaram 712, dos quais 62,1% eram homens e 37,9% eram mulheres. Do total, cerca de 5/6 tinham idade inferior a 30 anos. Em 2022, foram emitidos 8 265 títulos profissionais, dos quais 67,3% foram atribuídos a treinadores de desporto, seguidos dos técnicos de exercício físico (24,7%) e dos diretores técnicos (8,0%). Football was the sport with the highest number of practitioners (26.0% of the total), followed by swimming 9.7%), volleyball (8.4%) and handball (6.5%).
