COOPSTAT NEWS N.º 28 16 Cooperação Internacional Worldwide Cooperation Comemorações globais O INE teve uma participação ativa na Maratona Virtual de 24 horas organizada pelas Nações Unidas, no segmento da Comissão Económica para a Europa (UNECE). O Presidente e a Vogal do Conselho Diretivo do INE, António Rua e Maria João Zilhão, respetivamente, contribuíram com mensagem gravadas, nas quais explicaram a importância desta efeméride, a relevância dos princípios fundamentais das estatísticas oficiais e papel crucial que estas desempenham na tomada de decisões informadas. O INE partilhou igualmente vídeos dos seus colaboradores a explicarem conceitos estatísticos ou a natureza da sua atividade profissional, evidenciando o compromisso com uma comunicação clara e eficaz, aproximando as estatísticas oficiais dos utilizadores e da sociedade civil. O INE participou ainda na moderação de um painel de discussão, subordinado à temática “Driving change with quality statistics and data for everyone - what does it really mean for a statistician, how do we make it happen? Does everyone know that we drive the change?”. O painel foi moderado por Carolina Fresta Santos (INE de Portugal) e por Olga Świerkot-Strużewska (INE da Polónia), copresidentes da Task team da UNECE sobre Comunicação de Estatísticas dos ODS, que concluíram, de forma inequívoca, que a comunidade estatística é um motor de mudança. O painel contou com a presença dos dirigentes máximos dos INEs do Canadá (André Loranger), Suécia (Eva-Lo Ighe) e Ucrânia (Arsen Makarchuk), bem como da Presidente do Conselho Nacional de Estatística da Lituânia (Audronė Jakaitienė). Durante a discussão, destacou-se o imperativo da inovação (incluindo a preparação para os avanços e desafios colocados pela IA) e de parcerias estratégicas, nomeadamente com a academia, mas também com o setor privado, para enfrentar o desafio da desinformação. Foi ainda salientada a importância crucial da literacia estatística para construir confiança e garantir que dados de qualidade sejam compreendidos “por todos”, para que resultem em melhores vidas “para todos”. A participação ativa do INE nas celebrações nacionais e globais desta efeméride atesta o compromisso da instituição com a promoção do valor das estatísticas oficiais, capazes de incentivar a mudança, através de sociedades mais informadas. Global Commemorations INE also actively participated in the 24-hour Virtual Marathon organised by the United Nations, specifically within the Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) segment. The President and Board Member of INE’s Executive Board, António Rua and Maria João Zilhão, respectively, contributed with recorded messages, explaining the importance of the occasion, the relevance of the fundamental principles of official statistics, and the crucial role they play in informed decision-making. INE also shared user-friendly videos from its staff explaining statistical concepts or the nature of their professional activity, highlighting the commitment to clear and effective communication to bring official statistics closer to users and civil society. INE also took part in moderating a discussion panel, on the topic “Driving change with quality statistics and data for everyone - what does it really mean for a statistician, how do we make it happen? Does everyone know that we drive the change?”. The panel was moderated by Carolina Fresta Santos (INE) and Olga Świerkot-Strużewska (Statistics Poland), co-chairs of the UNECE Task team on Communication of Statistics for SDGs, who concluded, unequivocally, that the statistical community is a driver of change. The panel included the chief executives of the NSIs of Canada (André Loranger), Sweden (Eva-Lo Ighe), and Ukraine (Arsen Makarchuk), as well as the President of the Lithuanian Statistical Society (Audronė Jakaitienė). During the discussion, the imperative of innovation – including preparing for advances and challenges posed by artificial intelligence – and the importance of strategic partnerships, notably with academia and the private sector, to address the challenge of misinformation, were emphasized. The crucial importance of statistical literacy in building trust and ensuring that high-quality data is understood “by everyone,” resulting in better lives “for everyone,” was also underlined. Statistics Portugal’s active participation in the national and global celebrations of the WSD 2025 is a testament to the institution’s commitment to promoting the value of official statistics, which can drive change through better-informed societies.
