In terms of risk coverage, old age and sickness protection functions accounted for more than 75% of the total benefits granted, with 47.8% and 28.0%, respectively.Expenditures on pensions reached &euro;37,677 million in 2024, representing 56.1% of the total value of social benefits granted by social protection schemes and reflecting a less marked increase in nominal terms than that observed for social benefits in general. Old age pensions remain the most significant category, accounting for 78.5% of the total value of pensions.In 2024, there were 2,942 pension beneficiaries, 2.4% less than the number recorded 10 years earlier, because of a decline in the number of disability pension beneficiaries. The number of survivors' pension beneficiaries remained relatively stable, whilst the number of old age pension beneficiaries increased by 3.7%.A comparison with the European Union for 2023 highlights the larger contribution of pensions to social protection expenditures in Portugal (excluding transfers between schemes): 53.6% compared with 44.2% in the European Union.     "content":"In 2025, the number of non-resident tourist arrivals in Portugal is estimated to have continued to slow, reaching 29.9 million, reflecting a 3.3% increase compared with 2024 (+9.3% in the previous year). The Spanish market retained its leading position among the inbound markets, despite a 0.6% decline, accounting for a 23.8% share. The UK market (11.9% of the total) also retained its position as the second-largest inbound market and was the only one of the three main inbound markets for international tourists to record growth (+1.9%). This was followed by the French market (10.9% of the total), which fell by 2.9%.The overall tourist accommodation establishments recorded 34.8 million guests, who accounted for 89.7 million overnight stays in 2025, representing increases of 2.2% and 1.6%, respectively. The domestic market accounted for 32.9% of overnight stays in 2025, totalling 29.5 million, an increase of 3.5% on the previous year. External markets accounted for 60.2 million overnight stays, reflecting annual growth of 0.6%.In 2025, the number of overnight stays by non-residents exceeded that of residents in 70 municipalities. Among the 25 municipalities where overnight stays by non-residents accounted for more than 75% of the total, 10 were located in RA Madeira, 7 in Algarve, 5 in RA A&ccedil;ores, 2 in Norte, and 1 in Grande Lisboa.Overnight stays by non-residents accounted for 67.1% of all overnight stays across the overall tourist accommodation establishments in 2025. Last year was, since 2013, one of the years with the highest reliance on external markets, surpassed only in 2017 and 2024, when these markets accounted for 67.8% and 67.7% of the total, respectively. Compared with 2024, dependence on external markets, measured by the share of overnight stays, decreased by 0.6 p.p..The seasonality rate fell to 36.4%, reaching its lowest level since 2013. This indicator was higher amongst residents (40.4%) than amongst non-residents (34.4%), despite decreasing in both.Tourist trips taken by residents totalled 26.0 million, up by 13.7%, driven by growth in both domestic trips, which rose 14.0% from the previous year to 22.2 million, and trips abroad, which increased by 12.5% to 3.9 million in 2025.In 2025, average expenditure per tourist per trip fell by 4.2% from the previous year, standing at EUR 265.1.     "content":"The 2025 module of the Labour Force Survey on "Reconciliation between work and family life" aimed to assess the extent to which work and family responsibilities limit one another, seeking to understand the strategies adopted and the constraints experienced by people in their efforts to achieve this balance.Among the results obtained, the following stand out:&bull; 28.9% of those aged 18 to 74 had care responsibilities for children or grandchildren under the age of 15.&bull; 57.3% of those who regularly take care of children under the age of 15 did not use childcare services for all their children, mainly because the care was provided by themselves or their spouse (47.6%).&bull; 7.1% of those who cared for dependent relatives aged 15 and over, spent 30 or more hours a week providing this care (28.0%).&bull; 24.2% of the employed women with family care responsibilities stated they had to make some change to their work to better balance it with their family life.&bull; 39.0% of the employed caregivers reported facing obstacles at work that hindered their ability to balance work and family life, the main one being long working hours (11.8%).&bull; 76.9% of people aged 18 to 54 who had raised at least one child had taken a break from work by taking parental leave.&bull; 81.3% of men who took parental leave were absent from work for a maximum of 2 months; 91.5% of women who took parental leave interrupted their working life for a minimum of 2 months.<br><br>One in four women have changed their work life to reconcile it with family life"
