Definition Brent crude - Type of light crude oil with low sulfur content, extracted from the North Sea, used as an international benchmark for price setting in global markets, especially in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, commonly used as an economic and energy indicator for market analysis and policy formulation. Year-on-year growth rate - Rate that compares the level of the index/variable between the reference period of the current year and the same reference period of the previous year. This rate of change, given a stable seasonal pattern, is not affected by fluctuations of this nature, although it may be influenced by localised effects in one or both of the quarters compared.
