Statistics Portugal and Statistics Spain are launching jointly  the 8th edition of the The Iberian Peninsula in figures /La Península Ibérica en cifras with data for 2011.
The publication presents official statistical indicators, grouped into 14 themes, allowing comparisons between the two Iberian countries and set the position of each one in the European Union context. In many cases, the statistical information is presented at regional level.
In order to enable a precise comparison, it is necessary to adopt a single and common reference period. Although, Statistics Portugal has more recent data for some indicators, (e.g. data on population in Portugal, based on Census 2011), those figures were not used in the present analysis.

This publication represents a challenge to users, by inviting them to consult the wide range of official statistics freely available at the websites of Statistics Portugal (www.ine.pt) and Statistics Spain (www.ine.es), as well as at Eurostat (epp.eurostat.ec.europa.eu), the main source used in this data collection.
