In the 3rd quarter of 2019, the House Price Index (HPI) grew by 10.3% when compared with the same period of 2018, 0.2 percentage points (pp) more than in the previous quarter. In this period, the prices of existing dwellings increased at a faster rate when compared with new dwellings, 10.6% and 9.3%, respectively.
In relation to the previous quarter, the HPI increased 1.2% (3.2% in the preceding quarter). By category, existing dwellings grew by 1.4%, a rate of change that was higher than the one observed for new dwellings (0.3%).
A total of 45,830 dwellings were transacted between July and September 2019, representing a decrease of 0.2% when compared with the same quarter of 2018. In these months, the value of the transactions was approximately 6.5 billion euros, 3.0% more than in the 3rd quarter of 2018.
