Olive for olive oil production near historical records - January 2016
17 February 2016

Summary

Early estimates on January 31 point to an olive production for olive oil of 765 thousand tons, the third largest record over the last 75 years. For this result the new intensive olive groves have decisively contributed, installed mainly in the south of the country, which are watered, thus overcoming the lack of rainfall recorded during the crop year. As for the autumn / winter cereals, sowing has been carried out with no incidents, only lacking some areas for barley. The sown areas are similar to the previous year, with the exception of durum wheat (-10%). The cereals are homogeneous, in late tillering stage, and with prospects of higher yields when compared to those achieved in 2015.
