The largest olive for oil production over the last 50 years
Agricultural forecasts
The largest olive for oil production over the last 50 years - January 2014
19 February 2014

Summary
Early estimates on January 31 point to a production of 627 thousand tons of olive for oil, the largest one since the early 60’s from the last century. This outcome comes as a combined result of favorable weather conditions and the starting of full production stage on many new intensive olive groves. The winter cereal sowings were held without major problems, exception made to the latest ones, halted and delayed by steady rainfall. These crops surface should be similar to 2013, with slight deviations on common wheat (+5%) and durum wheat (-5%). Its germination and development was heterogeneous, better on the early sowed. It should be noted some occurrences related to excess rainfall, mainly on heavy and weakly drained soils.
