Summary
In the 2nd quarter of 2012, 3.7 million tourist trips were made by residents in Portugal, totalling 7.1 million throughout the first six months of the year. The trips taken in the quarter under review resulted in around 11.8 million overnight stays, roughly the same figure recorded in the same period of 2011. While the number of trips increased by 6.7% in the 2nd quarter of 2012, the average number of nights per trip decreased to 3.2 nights (3.4 nights in the same period of the previous year). The private free accommodation significantly increased its weight to 73% of the total overnight stays in the 2nd quarter of 2012.
