Summary
In 2009, the results regarding the per capita purchasing power synthetic indicator showed that 39 out of the 308 Portuguese municipalities exhibited a per capita purchasing power above the national average. The overall results show a concentration of higher municipal values in Lisbon and Porto metropolitan areas as well as in municipalities which are heads of administrative districts. The analysis, therefore, suggests a positive association between the degree of urbanization and the purchasing power regularly revealed. The proportion of purchasing power indicator puts in evidence the fact that the 27 municipalities of Grande Lisboa, Península de Setúbal and Grande Porto gathered 50% of the total national purchasing power.
