Transport of passengers increases by 5.7% in national airports while transport of goods by rail accounts for a growth of 6% - 1st Quarter 2011
27 May 2011

Summary
In the 1st quarter of 2011 the air and rail (light and heavy systems) modes of transport observed an overall positive evolution in the transport of passengers, when compared with the same period of the year before. The outstanding 5.7% increase in the number of passengers in national airports is worthy of note, along with further increases of 2.7% and 1.9% in light railway system and in heavy railway transport, respectively, but with a downward trend in inland waterways transport of passengers (-1.1 %). As far as the transport of goods is concerned, and still considering year-on-year changes, the dynamic performance in railway (+6 %) contrasted with the performances of sea (-4 %) and air (-2.7%) modes.
