(1) From January 1st, 2015 came into force a new version of NUTS (NUTS 2013). At NUTS II level was just a name change in "Lisboa" which became known as "Área Metropolitana de Lisboa".

(3) 2011: includes data from management entities of bulk services and/or retail services. INE made estimates in cases where data was not reported and /or disaggregated by municipalities.
Methodology: in the absence of responses, the allocation of total WWTP by management entities was considered, using a ratio of the number of WWTP per municipality over the number of total WWTP by management entities. Subsequently, the ratio values, by municipality, were multiplied by the total value of WWTP by management entities. Distributed wastewater treatment plants were considered in the class of Installed Treatment as "Not Specified".
